Capital Ex / WPCA
What a wild ride! Ferris wheels, rock stars and mini donuts - oh my!
Well one of Edmonton's biggest summer celebrations has wrapped up for the year, and I think I need a vacation! There was so much to do and see at Capital Ex, my friends and I ran around Northlands ten days almost non-stop! Throw in the WPCA Chuckwagon races on top of that and you see why I'm still pretty tired.
The parade was huge this year and had pretty much everything - cheerleaders, clowns and floats... oh and did I mention the tanks and fighter jets!? All of the floats were awesome, but the judges had to pick a winner and the War Amps totally deserved "Best Float" for their futuristic talking robot.
I ran into a bunch of my friends from WHERE magazine (Hi Meghann and Leanne!) on the grounds and we had a blast. Bonsai, Mega Drop, Fireball, the Zipper... you name, I rode it. We also made sure to catch all the great bands that were playing, everything from country stars Terri Clark and Doc Walker, rockers Blue Öyster Cult and The Trews and my own personal 90s soundtrack, Ace of Base!
I couldn't believe some of the crazy stunts the 'Outlaws of Motorsports' pulled off. I think my favourite 'horse-power' event was the WPCA races though. No brakes, no-holds-barred... Just an adrenaline packed sprint to the finish on the infamous "Half Mile of Hell". Congratulations to Kurt Bensmiller, driving the Stahl Peterbilt Outfit, along with outriders Shawn Calf Robe and Wayne Wright, for grabbing first prize in the sudden death round!
Somehow, I managed to survive ten-days of the midway diet - candy, popcorn, hot dogs... whew! Time to hit the gym!
Wow, I get tired just thinking about how much fun we had. Don't worry, I'm already psyched to go again next year!
